Lets be honest, I am a city girl.
The only Turkey I ever knew growing up came shrink-wrapped from the grocery store or pre-cut as lunch meat slices.
I was spoiled I guess... never had to fetch my own eggs, milk a cow or take an innocent turkey from it's happy gobbling existence to the dinner table.
Now that I am older and a little wiser I am starting to make the connection.
But it's not easy.
If I had to do the deed (and kill the Turkey myself)
Things would be different...
First off- I don't think I would eat as much meat
(or EVER eat meat)
and
Secondly- I would be MUCH MORE grateful for the life that was given on behalf of my appetite.
McDonalds drive-thru and Pizza delivery have REALLY disconnected my generation from this reality. So call me crazy but when this opportunity came up to see a Turkey go from the backyard to the roaster I knew I couldn't pass it up.
Also I figured it was better to break the news to my kids at an early age.
(It wasn't traumatic for them...just for me).
I don't think I will ever look at the Carl Buddig package the same.
Hope I don't make you lose your appetite. Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh that is so gross. There is a reason I don't eat red meat and this is it! I eat white meat for the protein but I could easily give it up if I think about it too much. Thanks for the visual. You aren't helping. ;)Haha! :) You are brave to watch that!
I was sooo excited to get the recipe books in the mail! I am super impressed with them & can't wait to dig into them and start cooking some delicious food! The next one I order I will need to have you autograph it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and thanks for helping me create some awesome eats for my fam!
sQuite a post there Ali....I don't think anyone wants to see how meat gets to the table. We just all want it prettily packaged and void of all reminders, but I'm sure my boys would have thought that was so cool.
Happy Thanksgiving!
