Kraut Burgers Anyone......

I had certainly never heard of a Kraut burger before I married into a family with German roots......but I must say that I am in love. They are SO good! In fact I ate one for breakfast 2 days in a row. Seriously.

When Josh was in elementary school his Grandma Doris was the lunch lady.  This was back in the day when the food was Fresh and cooked from scratch! WOW....how would that be......our kids might actually get fed something other that corn dogs and pizza!! So Grandma Doris made killer kraut burgers, and on the days that she made them the teachers would hover over the students to see if they were going to turn their nose up to lunch.
Any leftover Kraut burgers were swiftly intercepted by the school staff.  Josh said no kraut burger went to waste, the teachers would load bags full and take them home and freeze them.
I can see why....

So we attempted to make some of our own "Eisenach" Kraut burgers on Sunday and I think they turned out pretty darn good! The only thing is I cheated and used frozen dough....Grandma Doris always made her bread dough FRESH!

So you want to know what it is in them; ground beef,  cooked cabbage, sauteed onions and salt and pepper.  So simple. I also added a little bit of cream cheese to the mixture and it was YUMMY.  You can also add cheese or hot peppers, sausage or whatever.

Make the mixture, wrap it with dough, and bake.  So if you are feeling burned out of mexican food, and  chinese food, why not try the ol' german food!. You won't be disappointed!

Oh you can serve with gravy or ketchup. ENJOY!
